Eddie Carrillo – Camp Director
Chapman soccer has experienced a resurgence in recent years under Carrillo, earning at least 10 wins in eight of the past 10 seasons, including two NCAA playoff appearances (2009, ’11) and a berth in the SCIAC Tournament finals in 2013 and 2014.
The Panthers most recent success has been attributed in part to their defense, setting a school record for goals-against average in a single season with a 0.59 mark in 2008 and earning 46 shutouts as a team over the past seven years. In 2011, seven of the team’s 11 victories were shutouts.
A Chapman alumnus, who played for the Panthers from 1984-85, he led Chapman to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in his first four years as head coach from 1997-99. His teams have finished .500 or better in 12 of his 19 seasons, and he has coached 12 All-Region selections, 12 Academic All-District VIII selections and an Academic All-American.
In 2015, the Panthers had their best season yet in the SCIAC. They finished second with an 11-4-1 SCIAC record and hosted Chapman’s first-ever SCIAC Tournament men’s soccer match.
Carrillo previously had a distinguished career as a high school coach. He established a powerhouse program at Orange High, winning three league championships and being named Orange County Coach of the Year. He has been the club director of the Anaheim Surf Soccer Club since its inception in 1998.
He has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Chapman and a master’s in education from Claremont McKenna College.
Eddie received his Master’s in the field of Education from The Claremont McKenna Graduate School and his Bachelors in Computer Information Systems from Chapman University and currently Teaches math at Villa Park High School. Eddie played one year at Cal State Fullerton before transferring to Rancho Santiago College where he earned All-Conference honors on a team that was ranked #1 in the country. Eddie finished his career at Chapman University helping the team receive an at large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament in his senior year.
In addition to directing the Panther Soccer Camps, Eddie has also coached in the California Olympic Development program (ODP), The UCLA Elite High School camps and the College Soccer Academies. Eddie is also currently The Club Director and founder of Anaheim Surf. The Soccer Club began in 1996 and started out with 2 boys teams and has grown to 23 Girls & Boys teams with a boys and girls programs U8 thru U18. www.anaheimsurf.com
